Premier Orthopedic Appliances Made Available To You
Orthopedic appliances are designed to guide the growth of the jaws and face. Orthopedic appliances do this by supporting, stabilizing and correcting problems with the development of muscle and bone in the face and jaw, and aiding the process of how they function and work together. Angelakis Orthodontics uses orthopedic appliances for a variety of reasons. In the case of children, they are used as a preventative measure for more serious problems later in life.
The two main types of orthopedic appliances in orthodontics are palatal expanders and face masks. At Angelakis Orthodontics, we're proud to offer both!

Palatal ExpandersPalatal expanders, also known as rapid palatal expanders, are necessary if you have a crossbite where your lower jaw extends outward and past your upper jaw when you close your mouth. The expander widens or expands your upper jaw, allowing your jaws to fit together properly. It will also create space for crowded upper teeth. Face MasksOrthodontic face masks, often referred to as reverse-pull headgear, are a removable device used primarily for children with slowly developing upper jaws which lead to either an underbite or crossbite. The face mask aligns your jaws and corrects your profile. Our skilled staff will direct your daily usage. On average, face mask treatments last between six and twelve months. | ![]() |
